WOVEN's organizational structure was developed based on the universal knowledge of the Anishnaabe found in Douglas Cardinal's teachings.  In this talk, Douglas will discuss the Indigenous World View in contrast with the World View of the dominant culture. Douglas is one of the visionaries of a new world; a world where beauty, balance and harmony thrive.

Douglas Cardinal is an architect, lodge keeper, pipe carrier and honorary Anishnaabe chief whose work has been honored throughout the world. Douglas's architecture springs from his observation of Nature and its understanding that everything works seamlessly together. His work has defined contemporary Canadian, Indigenous, and organic architecture.

 

In recognition of such work, Douglas Cardinal has received many national and international awards including: 21 Honorary Doctorates, Gold Medals of Architecture in Canada and Russia, and an award from United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural organization (UNESCO) for best sustainable village. He was also titled an Officer of the Order of Canada, one of the most prestigious awards given to a Canadian, and he was awarded the declaration of being “World Master of Contemporary Architecture” by the International Association of Architects.

Tickets include a temporary link to the recorded talk that can be accessed from Aug 30 - Sept 6. Attendance to the live event is not required to gain access to the recording.

Consider paying MORE THAN FULL PRICE if you/your family has:

  • the ability to comfortably meet all of your basic needs.

  • investments, retirement accounts, or inherited money.

  • regular access to healthcare and health insurance.

  • providers who are employed or do not need to work to meet the families needs.

  • ownership of your home and a vehicle.

  • the resources to take an annual vacation or time off from work.

  • the ability to meet all of our basic needs.

  • the ability to pay all essential monthly bills and loans.

  • access to healthcare, and employer health insurance and/or other employer benefits.

  • reliable housing and transportation.

  • providers who have reliable employment.

  • the resources to take a vacation every few years without financial burden.

 

Consider paying LESS THAN FULL PRICE if you/your family has:

  • difficulty covering basic expenses.

  • significant debt that prevents basic needs from being met.

  • medical care, bills and/or expenses not covered by insurance.

  • unstable housing and/or limited access to reliable transportation.

  • a provider who is unemployed or under-employed.

  • eligibility for public assistance including food stamps, health care and/or subsidized/free school lunches.

  • not taken a vacation or time off due to the financial burden.
